CUPE Local 38 has announced they may pursue Work-to-Rule action in the event that they are unable to reach a fair deal with the City of Calgary. CUPE 38 represents City of Calgary Inside Workers, including those responsible for water, transit safety, city events and more.
This follows a May 15th and 16th vote in which members voted 89% in favour of strike action. The May vote did not commence strike actions, but provides the union the ability to do so at a time of the their choosing.
The timing is not ideal for Calgarians facing water shortages and increasingly strict water restrictions. CUPE 38 has launched radio ads saying that Stampede festivities may be at risk if a deal cannot be reached.
