Two charged in southeast Calgary kidnapping as police seek third suspect

By ·

Calgary Police have charged two men following an alleged kidnapping in southeast Calgary and are searching for a third suspect. Police say they learned October 12 that a woman was being held against her will at a home in the 2000 block of 37 Street S.E. Members of the Tactical Unit executed a search warrant the following morning, locating the woman and two men believed connected to the incident. The search also uncovered a sawed-off rifle, a stolen motorcycle, cellphones, approximately 607 grams of fentanyl, 360 grams of methamphetamine and 850 millilitres of GHB.

Joseph Sarazen, 45, and Jordan Taylor, 36, face charges that include forcible confinement, assault and possession of controlled substances for the purpose of trafficking. Taylor also faces firearms-related counts. Police have issued warrants for Dmetri Cappo, 33, whom they believe was involved, and are requesting information about his whereabouts. Investigators describe the incident as targeted and suspected to be drug-related. Those descriptions are police allegations, not court findings; the accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The case raises questions about the relationship between alleged violent confinement and Calgary's illicit drug market, but police have not established a broader organized-crime connection. The immediate public-interest concern is the outstanding suspect and the status of the investigation. Any new arrest, charge or court development will need confirmation, and details that could identify or endanger the complainant should be protected. Patterns involving trafficking-related violence cannot be inferred from this case alone without wider evidence.
