Two charged after human remains discovered in Skyview Ranch home
By Calgary Dispatch Newsroom ·
Calgary Police have charged two people following the discovery of human remains during a welfare check at a Skyview Ranch residence. Officers attended a home in the 200 block of Skyview Ranch Road N.E. on October 27 and located what investigators described as evidence consistent with human remains. Police subsequently charged Michael Lee, 49, and Helen Lee, 50, with indignity to a dead body. The two were remanded into custody, with court appearances scheduled for October 30, according to the October 28 police release. Their charges have not been proven in court.
Investigators have not publicly established the identity of the deceased person or the circumstances of the death in the official information reviewed for this article. An autopsy was scheduled for October 29, but a scheduled examination should not be treated as a publicly released cause-of-death determination. Police also searched the property and surrounding area as the investigation continued. The charge of indignity to a dead body is legally distinct from homicide, and nothing in the announced charges establishes that either accused caused the death.
The case is serious, but the limits of the available evidence are equally important. Motive, relationships among the people involved and possible additional offences have not been established publicly. The next substantive findings could come from identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, further police disclosures or verified court proceedings. Until then, the public record supports a suspicious-death investigation with two charges, not a confirmed murder allegation.
