Flames routed 6-1 in Seattle as winless start falls to 0-3
By Calgary Dispatch News Desk ·
The Calgary Flames’ search for their first win will continue after another lopsided loss to the Seattle Kraken on Sunday night. Seattle struck three times in the first 7:40 at Climate Pledge Arena and never looked back, building a 5-0 advantage through two periods before completing a 6-1 victory. Mackie Samoskevich scored twice for the Kraken, while Berkly Catton recorded a goal and an assist and Bobby McMann, Shane Wright and Jordan Eberle also found the net. Joey Daccord stopped 32 Calgary shots.
The result leaves Calgary 0-3-0 and compounds what has quickly become an ugly opening stretch. The Flames have been outscored 16-3 in their first three games, including a 6-1 home-opening loss to these same Kraken on Thursday and Saturday’s 4-1 collapse in Vancouver. Seattle’s early pressure exposed Calgary again, and Samoskevich’s first goal came after he beat the Flames’ defence to a loose puck before scoring on Dustin Wolf. By the end of the second period, the game was effectively out of reach.
Morgan Frost prevented the shutout with a third-period power-play goal, but there was little consolation in another night where Calgary fell behind early and spent the rest of the game chasing. After talking about the need for a quick response following the Vancouver loss, the Flames instead absorbed an even heavier defeat less than 24 hours later. Three games into the schedule, the issue is no longer simply one bad period or one difficult opponent: Calgary now needs to stabilize quickly before a poor opening week becomes a deeper early-season problem.
